More on Chick and Herbie

This is just a quick footnote to the previous post on the live (and alive) performing style Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock use in performance. The person who posted this video says it is from the 1989 Mt. Fuji Jazz Festival, which sounds right. As Herbie and Chick perform George Gershwin's tune "Liza (All the Clouds'll Roll Away)", taken from his 1929 musical Show Girl, watch the way they improvise, inventing and re-inventing, de-constructing and re-constructing. What they are playing is new, right now. Aside from everything else, these two pianists are playing at such a breakneck speed that they eventually are challenging each other just to keep up. Hilarious, playful and a joy to watch and hear.
